Anti-collapse cerified system OLYMPUS SAFE
Laboratory tests carried out on latero-cement floors and in robes and travelers
In order to ensure maximum safety of buildings, Olympus has engineered and certified the Oly Safe anti-shattering systems. A 1: 1 scale cement-based lateral cement floor test campaign was carried out at the Istituto Giordano Spa laboratories in order to determine the resistance of the Oly Safe systems both dry and with mortar of the Oly Grout Wall line.
Olympus has chosen to engineer a fully certified shatterproof system, in response to the growing need for safety in existing buildings and the need to offer the market a technical solution that complies with European regulations. All the components that make up the system are CE marked, a distinctive element that certifies its compliance with the essential safety, reliability and durability requirements provided for by the applicable European directives.
Although it is not a structural consolidation intervention in the strict sense, the anti-shattering is an extremely delicate operation, as it aims to prevent the detachment and sudden fall of plasters and bricks - non-structural elements but potentially very dangerous for safety of people. In highly frequented environments, such as schools, hospitals, offices and public places, these phenomena can generate serious damage or injuries even in the absence of exceptional events.
For this reason, Olympus has designed a system that not only meets high performance standards, but which has also undergone mechanical characterization tests, adherence and resistance, in order to meet the criteria required to obtain the CE marking for each single component. This approach guarantees a higher level of reliability than assembled solutions on site with heterogeneous and non-certified materials as a system.
For designers, construction managers and executing companies, Olympus-Safe represents a safe, traceable and compliant choice, ideal for work on buildings subject to stringent regulations in
safety matters, such as school or public ones. The availability of a complete, certified and tested system also makes it possible to simplify the design phase, facilitate the direction of the works and ensure compliance with the professional responsibilities related to the safety of the materials used.
Specifically, thanks to the various fixing kits, the Olympus-Safe certified systems are suitable to be applied, even in an aggressive environment, on different types of floors that can be divided into two large families: brick-cement floors of different nature and floors with beams and Boards.
Laboratory tests
The test sample consists of a containment system made of fiberglass applied to the intrados of a portion of brick-cement floor slab with 500 mm pitch joists, mounted on a frame made with metal tubulars.
This containment system consists of:
- OLY MESH GLASS G320: ETA-CE mark glass fiber mesh;
- OLY CONNECT SAFE VITE:
- OLY CONNECT RONDELLA
- OLY WALL STRUKTURA F15: Mortar CE mark 1504-3 e 998-2

Test mode
The test was carried out by applying a vertical load by means of a thrust punch made of plywood on a portion of the network near the center of the floor simulacrum. In this central position, an opening of dimensions equal to a brick was left, in order to apply the vertical load directly on the fiberglass network.
The load was applied continuously until the fiberglass network or a component of the test containment system failed.
The load test was repeated three times, the first two tests were conducted without the application of the mortar but only on a constrained fiberglass network, by means of a dowel system and flange to the concrete joists of the floor. In the third test, the load test was conducted on the fiberglass net bound to the intrados of the floor, by means of a flange gusset system and plastered with fiber-reinforced mortar. In all tests, two 1 m wide mesh sheets with 15 cm overlap were used. After the application of the thrust in the center of the floor until the system fails, the third test continued by soliciting a lateral portion near the edge of the floor.
Olympus Strengthening Solutions
Downstream of the test campaign, a specific Olympus Strengthening Solutions software was developed that allows technicians to verify the Oly Safe system for each type of brick slab.
