Seismic improvement of Iglesia de Nicoya in Costa Rica with aramid fiber
July 24, 2019 Carlos Andrés Alvarado Quesada, President of the Republic of Costa Rica inaugurated the reopening of the Iglesya de Nicoya in Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica.
The church was the subject of an important seismic restoration and improvement project following the damage suffered on the occasion of the 7.6-degree earthquake on the Richter scale that hit Costa Rica on 5 September 2012.
The history of this temple was marked by numerous telluric tragedies, already in 1830 it was subjected to a first intervention following the earthquake of April 3, 1826, although its repair did not last long, 3 years later, in 1833, it underwent The effects of another strong earthquake as a result of which remained in decline for more than 17 years.
The parish of San Blas in Nicoya was declared a "national relic" in 1923, adding to a small list of religious buildings, including the church of Ujarrás, the temple of Orosi in Cartago and Leremo of Quebrada Honda. However, the series of tragic events continued on September 5, 2012, with the 7.6 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale which severely damaged the structure of the church.
He participated in the seismic improvement project of the structure Eng. Domenico Brigante, Technical Director of OLYMPUS and Eng. Dominic Morrone as part of the developed recovery project by the architect Adrián Vindas Chaves, head of the architect of the Centro de Investigación y Conservación of the Cultural Heritage of the Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud of Costa Rica.
