REINFORCEMENT OF RC NODES WITH FRP

Structural safety and the seismic retrofitting of masonry buildings are issues of current and significant importance within civil society. Numerous structures require structural strengthening interventions, and numerous seismic events have affected and continue to affect Italy over the years. Therefore, the need to ensure structures perform adequately in accordance with current regulations and with the numerous seismic events has emerged. OLYMPUS FRP fits into this context, using composite materials made of high-strength fibers and polymer resins. These materials represent an innovative technology compared to traditional reinforcement systems, offering countless technical and practical advantages. Thanks to their high mechanical resistance and reduced impact on structures in terms of weight, stiffness, and geometry, FRP materials represent an effective solution for the reinforcement of reinforced concrete and masonry structures. Furthermore, the absence of oxidation ensures the high durability of these systems over time, eliminating the critical issues typical of traditional interventions.

Patented System

The OLYMPUS SISMA JOINT system is a patented system owned by OLYMPUS. It received a utility model patent from the Ministry of Economic Development and Made in Italy on March 19, 2023, and has been applied to the seismic upgrade of hundreds of existing reinforced concrete buildings. Patent Title: Structural strengthening system for the seismic improvement of reinforced concrete beam-column joints with in-situ laminated CFRP and AFRP composite materials and anti-overturning systems for the infill walls Deposit date: 03.08.2021 Patent number: 202021000004007

Certified CVT systems

With Decree of the President of the Superior Council of Public Works no. 220 of 9 July 2015, the "Guideline for the identification. Qualification and acceptance control of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix (FRP) composites to be used for the structural consolidation of existing buildings" was approved, approved with favorable opinion no. 115/2013 of 19 February 2015 by the First Section of the Superior Council of Public Works. With regard to the use of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix (FRP) composites to be used for the consolidation of existing buildings, reference can continue to be made to the provisions of point 8.6 of the Technical Standards for Construction pursuant to Ministerial Decree 14/01/2008. For the consolidation of existing buildings using fiber-reinforced polymer matrix (FRP) composites, only materials qualified pursuant to the Guideline may be used." The OLYMPUS FRP line systems are CVT 12-2025 certified

Preparation and cleaning of the substrate and application of OLY RESIN BASE DB epoxy primer with a roller “Fresh” application by roller of a first layer of two-component epoxy resin OLY RESIN 20 HTG following the instructions in the relevant technical data sheet Installation of OLY TEX CARBO 380 QUADRI-AX HR fabric in possession of a CVT issued by the Central Technical Service with fibres oriented as per the project and subsequent treatment with a special bubble-breaking roller Apply a second layer of OLY RESIN 20 HTG “while still fresh” and then treat with a special bubble-breaking roller If it is necessary to subsequently apply civil plaster, it is advisable to first manually dust the still "fresh" system with quartz sand to increase the useful grip surface. PHASE 2 Brush application of a first layer of OLY RESIN 20 HTG two-component epoxy resin following the instructions in the relevant technical data sheet Installation of OLY TEX ARAMIDE 400 UNI-AX HM fabric in possession of a CVT issued by the Central Technical Service with fibres oriented as per the project and subsequent treatment with a special bubble-breaking roller Apply a second layer of OLY RESIN 20 HTG “while still fresh” and then treat with a special bubble-breaking roller
